I'm one of those weird people uniquely wired to be strong in both the tactical and the strategic, to need high-level work as well as hands-on "doing" work. Cerebral as well as creative. As a result, I've become very aware of how tough energy management can be for me and what sources give me a recharge on both sides of my internal wheelhouse.
One of the biggest sources I've found? Sci-fi. The concepts, depictions, capabilities of characters and physics within sci-fi genres provide an incredible source of ideas for creative problem solving, connections thinking and allegorical lessons. Keeps me open to new ideas and my mind fluid and adaptive - helps me roll with the punches, embrace change and wrap my brain around new platforms of communication and technology a lot more quickly and easily. I remember a few years ago, watching the movie Deja Vu with someone, and they could not grasp the time travel component at all - to the point of such frustration that they gave up watching the movie all together.
A favorite sci-fi franchise of mine is Transformers, and my fave Transformer is Bumblebee, pictured above. For those of you who have never seen Transformers, Bee is the main character's body guard and protector, robot in life, Camaro undercover. He's got personality and heart in spades, but what I've been thinking about lately is how Bee communicates. He is unable to speak. Voice chip problems. So the only way he can communicate is through audio clips he's picked up from movies and music. He very effectively combines the circumstances around him and his body movements with just the right audio clip in order to be understood. But you have to watch and listen carefully in order to put 2 and 4 together and fully grasp his messages.
With my recent focus on this "godwink" concept and making a purposeful effort to look for and recognize the godwinks around me, I started thinking about how God communicates with us. He could just bellow down from the skies anytime he wanted to get something across to us. Can you imagine? Complete chaos here on the planet, I think. Kind of an interesting picture, actually. But with all his unfathomable vastness, he chooses the Bumblebee route. Chooses to communicate using the circumstances around us, combined with just the right "love" language individually specific to each of us. I find that pretty amazing. I'm a word girl - quotes, music, books, letters, kudos. Words impact me in enormous ways, as do symbols (like rainbows). So what did God use to communicate with me specifically? My personal "love" language intricately woven into every day circumstances.
I used to get pretty upset with God for not bellowing from the sky. Used to question, "Why do you have to make this whole hearing you thing so damn hard!?" But I'm starting to truly appreciate the lack of bellowing. It takes a lot more love, effort, personal attention and commitment to communicate with someone in exactly the way THEY need - over and over and over again. It would be so much easier to disregard all of that and opt for a cookie-cutter communication style applicable to the entire human race en masse. To know God
chooses to be Bumblebee to each one of us - chooses to communicate uniquely and specifically in the way each one of us needs it - I'll take that kind of love any day. And I'll gladly accept the work it takes on my part to watch and listen so I don't miss those special, tailored-for-me, Bumblebee moments.
